At 4:00 pm, we were alerted by Sqreen to suspicious activity by a user on our GiveGab administrative interface. To prevent this, we blocked the IP address associated with this user. Sqreen flagged our application’s IP address and not the user’s IP address. Because of this, we unintentionally blocked the IP of one of our cloud servers. This had the effect of blocking any uncached traffic from this specific server. Users who were accessing cached pages would have been unaffected. The IP address was unblocked at 4:54 pm.
Users on givegab.com were more likely to be affected as pages on our giving days application are cached for a day.
